COLUMBUS, Ohio — Ohio State is set to close out the nonconference portion of its 2024 schedule with a home matchup against Marshall.
The Buckeyes are hoping to avoid a repeat of their last “official” victory over the Thundering Herd, which came in 2004 with a nail-biting 24-21 win decided by a 55-yard field goal from Mike Nugent. While they also recorded a 45-7 victory in 2010, that game has since been vacated due to the Tattoogate scandal.
Fast forward 20 years, and the talent on both sides of the ball for Ohio State far exceeds that of the 2004 squad under Jim Tressel. The disparity between OSU this season and Marshall is significant, suggesting that a last-minute field goal is unlikely this time around.
As the Buckeyes pursue a national championship, it's crucial for them to dominate games where they are heavy favorites.
